In Brief

This is the home of the Evergreen Integrated Library System (ILS) and the Evergreen Project which supports the Evergreen ILS. Evergreen is highly-scalable open source library software designed to support libraries of all kinds in managing their collections, patrons, circulations, and other library functions.

Evergreen is licensed under the GNU GPL, version 2 or later.

The Evergreen Project is a 501(c)(3) membership organization governed by an elected board, and incorporated under the laws of the US state of Missouri.

Vision and Mission

Vision Statement: We envision a growing, healthy international community supporting Evergreen as a flexible, modern, and feature-competitive open-source library software platform suitable for use at many types of libraries and library consortia.

Mission Statement: The Evergreen Project exists to foster the open-source Evergreen Integrated Library System (ILS) software and its community of practice. The Evergreen Project engages in activities to promote, support, and advance the development of the Evergreen ILS software; support and facilitate the growth of the international community of Evergreen ILS software users; and to cultivate, manage, and protect the assets of the Project.

The Evergreen Project

The Evergreen Project develops Evergreen ILS, used by more than 2,000 libraries around the world. Evergreen ILS is used by libraries to provide their public catalog interface as well as manage circulation, acquisition and cataloging of library materials, and resource sharing.

The Evergreen Project was initiated by the Georgia Public Library System in 2006 to serve their need for a scalable catalog shared by more than 275 public libraries in the state of Georgia. Since Evergreen’s release as an open-source product, it has been adopted by a number of libraries and library consortia in the United States, Canada, Czechia, and elsewhere.

The Evergreen development community is highly active, managing two major releases and monthly point releases every year. The Evergreen user community is also marked by a high degree of participation from the librarians who use the software and contribute documentation, bug reports, and organizational energy.
